HP Pavillon | Win7 Ultimate (all updates applied) | 4GB RAM | Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 | Hitachi HDT725050VLA360 ATA | USB attached Maxtor 500GB | Carbonite

Recently upgraded my pc from Vista Ult to Win7 Ult. Now when it wakes after sleep it BSOD. I executed the following:

* RAN CHKDSK /F /R
* RAN MEMTEST86 FOR 8 PASSES no errors found
* APPLIED KB977178 for large SATA drives
* RAN SEAGATE'S MAXTOR DRIVE FITNESS TEST SLOW AND LONG - NO PROBLEMS FOUND

While working with folks on MS Tech forum we kind of zeroed in on my Maxtor OneTouch4. There is a very high correlation in that if it is USB connected upon awake it crashes. If I unplug the USB cable before wake it doesn't crash. I tested this 10 out of 10 times. Today with no USB connected it crashed upon wake. One slight difference is that this time I had left Carbonite running to do some backups. Typically I have it paused so as not to fight it. While it did BSOD I got a slightly different error message, which made me think of Carbonite. Maybe my Win 7 doesn't like ANY kind of virtual drive when it wakes up???? I'm pasting the bluescreenview dmps here. Any ideas? I would really like to get this behind me.

Thanks

Russ

Neither sleep nor hibernate was truly perfected by MS. While they work perfectly on most systems, they cause problems on others. I suggest that instead of Sleep you just set your display and hd to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It achieves the same result and should work without issues.
