I'm new to this forum, but it seemed like the perfect place to get input about a question I've been researching for a couple of weeks.
We're about to welcome our first child (any day now!) and it got me wondering:
is there a cheap wireless camera that could double as a webcam?
Rather than buying a $250 baby monitor with video and sound monitoring, we decided it would be cheaper to buy a wireless surveillance camera that we could view on our computer (which we have hooked up to our TV as the monitor). http://www.amazon.com/LYD-W203E1-Wireless-Channels-Transmission/dp/B003VNKN2S
Is there any way of using this audio/video of our newborn as a webcam so we can skype with the rest of the family? I'm hoping it can be done for $50 or $60, but I'm new to all things tech, so I thought I'd get some opinions before blowing my money.

Thank you for any direction on this issue!!

You should be able to use something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815144039 to transfer the feed from your Security Cam to your PC. Getting Skype to recognize it as a web cam may be an issue, I have no experience with Skype.

If it were my money, I'd buy something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105359 most likely a much better picture and sound quality then the security camera, at least judging by the security cameras I've used.

Congratulations on becoming a parent! Curtain Climbers are a blessing, and I have been blessed not to have any! :hysterical:
