Hi

Most of the time when I start my computer it freezes at the screen where my start programs boot up. When I click on Internet Explorer, my hompage changes to another website. Also, it sometimes changes to a google search result page showing a list of adult entertainment websites.

I have been successful and downloading and using Zone Alarm Pro trial verision, Bit scanner, spybot, and Mcafee stinger. My last scan with Zone Alarm notified me with:

Web Nexus
This program is browser plug-in that runs when your web browser is in use. It installs a search toolbar onto your Internet Explorer. It may change your browser settings, home page, reroute your searches to a specific sponsored site, hide your original toolbars, add items to your favorites list, and block access to specific sites. It may periodically open up pop-up advertisements while Internet Explorer is running. It may also monitor internet usage and web sites you browse.

I have been unsuccessful with housecall(error trying to send info between my computer and I'm guessing their website), panda anti-virus (do not get a prompt to install active x controls and do not know how to do it myself), and Ad-Aware-SE ( freezes up while scanning something like Hkey_Machine_Softeware... or something similar to it).

Zone Alarm said it could delete Web Nexus with a purchase of its Pro version but I thought I would see what could be done before I made any purchases. I believe the next step from the "prep guide" to posting a log was to post a log.

Hence:

You need to move HiJackThis from the temp directory to function correctly

Get HiJack This V1.99.1 http://thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe - double click the DL file and click UNZIP letting it extract to its default folder C:\Program FIles\HiJackThis, run it from there

==================

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout

http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch.

Fix these with HJT mark them, close IE, click fix checked

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{15493C32-6572-468F-A2B6-7855950E3C2D}: NameServer = 85.255.114.24,85.255.112.122

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ (W2K/XP Only)
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
(Start tapping F8 at the first black screen after power up)

Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a new HiJack log

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt
"Nothing could be finer than to be in South Carolina ............"

Hey,

CW shredder eliminated so many infected files. I was finally able to do a scan with Adaware without it crashing on me and that got rid of 139-69 infected files. I ran Kill box and tried to delete the files you told me to and could only delte one, it was said the other file did not exist. When I booted in Safe mode and ran Ewido, it eliminated 165 infected files. i ran Ad aware again and it said my computer was clean as well as Ewido.

I did another pass with HJT and here is the log:

Hey,

Sorry about not posting the ewido log, I was on a lunch break and late for work.

I ran ewido last night and then again today. Both times it only detected and deleted something called Tribal Fusion. Should I be worried that it was on my computer to be deleted today?

Here is the ewido log:

---------------------------------------------------------
ewido security suite - Scan report
---------------------------------------------------------

+ Created on: 2:19:32 PM, 12/17/2005
+ Report-Checksum: 1255F41C

+ Scan result:

C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Cookies\admin@tribalfusion[2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Tribalfusion : Cleaned with backup

::Report End

My computer is running great! I can tell it is a little faster, my homepage is back, pop-ups are gone, and all of the other problems I had before your help are gone. I was very satisfying watching all of the spyware, malware, viruses, trojans, and worms be eleminated. After I purchase another anti-virus program, I will have peace of mind.

Being that my anti-virus program is out dated, I have been considering Trend Micro's PC Cillin or Zone Labs Zone Alarm Pro. I have three questions. (1)Would you recommend one of these programs over the other, (2) Is there another program that you feel is better, and (3) How do I donate to this forum?

Thanks again!

Ps. Well, four questions: Is there anything else I should do/run before I turn off restore points, boot, and turn them back on again?

No need to purchase an AV

Get the free AVG 7 install it, check for updates and run a full scan

AVG 7 - http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Donate link is at the top left

Nah we've done it - go ahead and do restore points

Get all of these and/or verify you have the current versions

SpywareBlaster 3.4 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
AdAware SE 1.06 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
MS AntiSpy - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (XP and W2K only)

DownLoad them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates
and then run AdAware, MS AntiSpy (W2k/XP) and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
In SpyBot - After an update run immunize
