OK,first I am a novice with computers so I need carefull explanation AND really help! I will try to explain my problem properly, with all the actions I took.

+ my virus scanner or antivirus program was not good and was expired / not working...
yesterday is was trying to find a file that I could download for my brother so he could play a game without cd.
I downloaded it and then i extracted the file, then I wasn't paying attention and there was asked for me to grant permission to run it. After I accepted the computer suddenly crashed resulting into a black screen and a shut down computer. I totally freaked out, i thougt all my files were lost so i reboot and tried normal mode-> 1th time got me blue screen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL after 1 min when the computer was fully started up. So I started it again but then in safety mode-> no blue screens nothing. Then I started thinking about what caused this: it can be 2 things : 1. that file i downloaded = virus / trojan / other evil creation and now automaticly runs when i startup com and generated blue screen. OR 2: hardware malfunctions, 2 months ago I also had blue screens but then after reinserting my memory it went fine (already did it 2 times). So my thoughts are going out to a virus/trojan/ from the downloaded file. Never the less i tried to start again in normal mode and yes after 1 min blue screen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Then i started in safety mode with internet options trying to download any virusscanner who could sweep the virus away-> did not work. Then i downloaded it from from other laptop ( where I am on right now) and tried to insert it with usb, but only after 1min he errors again blue screen-> IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. So i couldn't possibly install it before the com crashes.. I tried couple times more with same results and same errors.. Please help.. My computer is my everything for my study. But it is useless right now.. I hope someone can enlighten me.
*note: the errors all occur after typed down my password and see the desktop screen with all icons.

Thank you very much.

** EDIT
OK 5 min after i wrote this I tried to start the com up again, I tried 3 times:
1. first time -> after 1 min blue screen without a 'name to it like IQRL_NOT_OR_LESS' but the technical information at the bottom was saying this:
***Stop: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005,0xFFFF800026EFEFD,0x0000000000000000xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)

+ there was a strange noise coming out of my speakers (NOT THE INBUILD IN COMPUTER)

2. Second time -> 1 min after typing password and startup -> Frozen screen , nothing responses and needed to shut down manually

3. 3rd time -> 10 sec after typing password and startup -> blue screen with the line : SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEPTION

4. Last time I tried NOTHING OCCURS and my computer is now on and doing everything -> Still the question is after shutting it down will the errors come back and what is wrong with my computer-> NOTE that my computer makes far more noice then when i first bought him for 2 months now -> dusted it all still noise like vacuum cleaner.

But I dont think thats the real problem when i read other posts I am thinking more and more of a hardware problem and the acces of that file was just a coincidence. Please help, im confused!
Thanks in advance

**edit my computer still not fixed, keep getting blue screens who I described above. After 1 min the com is on desktop and started up, then he reboots...also glad to see that my issue has been viewed only somewhat disappointing no one can bring any solution.

Hello and :welcome: to the BC forums. I am sorry that your earlier post was overlooked and no one replied to it. Unfortunately, that sometimes happens. Feel free to PM a Moderator if it should ever happen again.

The problem is most likely not caused by a virus at all: It is probably caused by disk file system corruption.

Please try step 1 if you can: Otherwise please proceed straight to step 2. You can carry out step 2 from Safe Mode, if you are having trouble with Windows running normally.

:step1: Download BlueScreenView (in zip file)
Extract the contents of bluescreenview.zip and then double-click on the BlueScreenView.exe file, and click on Run, to run the program. (No installation is required.)
When scanning is done (please be patient), go ...
  • Edit > Select All
  • File > Save Selected Items, and save the report to your Desktop as BSOD.txt.
Close the BlueScreenView window.
Open BSOD.txt using Notepad and go ...
  • Edit > Select All
  • Edit > Copy, and then paste the entire contents of the text file into your next reply.

:step2: Use the Windows Error Checking utility (Check Disk), with the options to scan the disk surface for errors, and attempt recovery of data and repair the disk.
  • Open "My Computer"
  • Right-click on the drive that you wish to check > Properties > Tools > and in the "Error checking" section, click on "Check now".
  • Place a tick in both boxes > Start.
  • If the disk you have chosen is the system disk:
  • A message will notify you that a restart is necessary: Click OK, and close all windows.
  • Re-start the computer. The disk will be checked when the system boots.
This test will take some time to run and at times may appear stalled but just let it run.
  • When the disk check is complete, the system will re-start automatically and load Windows.
Does Windows start and run normally now? If possible, proceed with the next instructions to post the Check Disk log: Otherwise, just let us know the result of the above step.

A log of the disk check is recorded only if the scheduled re-start is used, and only for drives on the same HDD as the Operating System.
To open Event Viewer and view the log:
  • Go to Start > Run > and type eventvwr and press the <ENTER> key.
The Event Viewer window will open.
  • In the left pane, click on Application.
  • In the right pane, at the top, click on the column heading Source to sort the list alphabetically.
  • Look in the Source column for "Winlogon", with an entry corresponding to the date and time of the disk check.
  • Double-click on that entry to view the log.
  • Click on the Posted Image button to copy the log text to the clipboard.
  • Paste the log text into your next reply.

Thank you for answering my post, in my new college I follow I need to use the computer for Matlab..
So the repair is urgent, I am online from a laptop i borrowed.
I will try the steps first thing tomorrow! I need to sleep now..
But before I try tomorrow I got 1 question about step 1, can that be runned from safe mode?
Cause +-1 min after the computer is don starting up (then im looking at the desktop background) I get the bsod, how am I going to extract all it before I get the bsod and how do I extract the information again before I get the bsod? Nevertheless I will try to get it done,
Second question, is it possible to download the file on usb and plug it into the computer to run it from there?
Third question, so I follow the step 1 and then I must wait for a bsod to come -> restart the computer and then copy files to usb?

I hope the steps will work, first thing tomorrow!

thanks again for the reply!
Robbert

Step :step2: is the most important thing you need to do right now. Do this step first. Hopefully it will fix your computer problem.
:spacer: Start the computer in Safe Mode to perform this step.

  • If you have trouble starting in Safe Mode, the same thing can also be done by:
  • starting in Safe Mode with command prompt, and typing chkdsk /r at the command prompt.
  • booting from an XP installation CD and starting the Recovery Console and typing chkdsk /r at the prompt.

If doing the above does not fix your computer problem, then try to do Step :step1: .

I suggest that you try starting the computer in Safe Mode with networking. If this works OK, you can then download Bluescreenview directly to the computer and run it. Then you can copy the log and paste it in your reply to me directly from the trouble-some computer.

To answer your questions ...

You said: "step 1, can that be runned from safe mode?"
Yes, it can be done in Windows Safe Mode, and also in Safe Mode with networking.

You said: "Second question, is it possible to download the file on usb and plug it into the computer to run it from there?"
Yes, that will work. You can then transfer the log (BSOD.txt) to the USB flashdrive and then to another computer if necessary, to reply to me.

You said: "Third question, so I follow the step 1 and then I must wait for a bsod to come -> restart the computer"
No, you do not need to wait for a BSOD. The program will look on your computer for the information from previous BSODs.
Simply follow the instructions that I gave you earlier, to run Bluescreenview and post the log.

Hello im back and thank you very much for the answers, the reason I ordered the questions was for myself to better understanding it, my computer skills aren't very good..
And I just completed step 1 :

Ok.. I finished step 2 also i think, I have 2 hard drives C and D, I only checked C (who has the most items on it..) after waiting a long time it wass done and I even found the Event Viewer.. Only from then was went going stuck because my computer isnt set on the language English so not all was obvious for me.. So the computer started up fine after the run. BUT after I thought it was over and I signed in on msn messenger the computer crashed again. A bsod with no text like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR.. to be seen on the screen then it restarted itselve.. And (now) after the restart I again got a bsod IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I still got the whole error saved on my computer, so I will try to upload it somehow. How am I going to do that anyone? How about I mail it to you?

I hope you reply fast,
Robbert

Do you have a digital camera? Can you take a picture of the screen? (No flash, and no exterior lights shining on the screen.)

Otherwise, in the area under "Technical Information", do you see any file name shown? If so, then please let me know what it is.

Otherwise simply restart your computer.

If your system is still crashing unexpectedly and re-starting itself, you may need to run step :step2: again. And perhaps even a third time also.

Then test your system again.

Edit: Try to post a log from one of these Disk Checks if you can: Without that, we have no way of knowing what is going on.

No, that information does not help. Please EDIT your post and remove it all. Thank you.

Please try following the instructions closely, to find the Check Disk log.

It would be a good idea to run Error Checking on your second drive also.
