I recently encountered some infections on my laptop which is running Windows XP Home Edition(Os would freeze). I used Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Superantispyware to remove all infections.

I have two user accounts and cannot start them up. I can boot into safe mode and I already tried "Last Known Good Configuration" with no fix. When I click the user account to open that account it is attempting to start up but a comand prompt window keeps flashing on the screen, it's like a program is trying to run on start-up. It is titled: C:/windows/system32/cmd.exe and C:/windows/system32/command.com or .exe. I never get to the desktop. I can open up Task manager but can't start explorer.exe.

I really need to get into my second account(Bridget), When I boot into safe mode I can only select Administrator or my account(Josh). Bridget is only listed when I try to boot normal.

To me I'm thinking it is the registry or something, I have all the cds what can I do.

Hi :).

Any (exact details, please) error messages?

System manufacturer and model?

My wild guess would be that you are infected or system files have been damaged by infection/removal efforts.

I suppose that you could try a repair install or running the sfc /scannow command...in an effort to repair/replace missing/damaged system files.

Yes, I'm sorry. It is a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop. I never receive an error message it just continues to flash a command prompt window over and over.

I will try the steps you suggested, and get back to you . Thank You

You said you used MalwareBytes, SAS and Spybot. Did you use any anti virus utility?

I used a system disc to repair the OS and it is working now.
