XP running super-anti spyware and avast. The computer started to show signs of slowing down, videos that play haltingly, internet slowing, etc. Tried to run combofix but got a warning that microsoft security essentials was running. What? I uninstalled that weeks ago! It isn't in the list under control panel, add/remove programs. Re-booted and nothing......
Tried again and got checkdisk saying I had a bunch of files that it had to truncate. After checkdisk, it just sits there, no boot. Using Unbuntu linux, I see that in my windows, inf folder
that each file is listed twice. Once with .inf and once with .pnf I do not recall these files being as such. I ran my setup disk and did a repair to windows and it still will not boot.
HELP!

Hello, and sorry for the delay.

What happens when you try to boot your computer? Does tapping F8 bring up the Advanced boot options menu? Do you see the Windows Splash screen?

Do you use an Ubuntu live CD or do you have a dual boot?

regards, Elise
