This might be a failed browser redirect. All browsers fail to load pages, but I can ping sites through cmd. "Slow internet" is now no internet.

Hi there,

I have malware of some kind that essentially shut down my internet. I was able to buy some time by continuously using "ipconfig /flushdns" but that has since stopped having any effect, so I am forced to post this from my laptop.
Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Avira have all failed to find the culprit. I might have already run Combofix prior to reading that I shouldn't do that. My bad. :/

My DNS resolver cache is full of sites routed through the localhost that I have never visited, from startup. I have attached the list as dns.txt.

Thanks in advance.

Here is my DDS:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

We need to create a New FULL OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here if you have not done so already:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Change the "Extra Registry" option to "SafeList"
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Best Regards,

Best Regards,

Hi oneof4,

The problem is more complicated than I first thought. It may in fact be a network issue.

My computer shows as being connected to the router and internet. I can't resolve any websites. I can ping the router and websites, but with a 25-50% packet loss. nslookup on any site times out. IM clients can sometimes still access the internet. Pinging my computer from other network machines has a similar rate of packet loss.

This problem goes days without reoccuring, and then returns for a few hours. Or happens consistently for a day. So, malware, router or NIC?

... and restarting my computer solves it this time, though it obviously didn't the last 8 times.

Also, the port lights on my netgear turn amber for no good reason at all. This isn't even always the port my computer uses. Restarting the router solves the problem for 10 minutes. Swapping the ports around on the router carries the issue to the new port.

My computer and the router are less than a year old.

Any ideas? I don't know if I'm even in the right forum.

Thanks for your time.

Replacing the router solved the issue.
