I restarted my computer this morning to finish an installation, however when the pc got to the WinXP splash screen it flashed for a microsecond a blue screen with like on line of text on it and restarted. I'm doing a repair installation as we speak so hopefully that'll fix whats happened. If that dosent can anyone shed some light on whats happened and what i need to do to fix it?

Well...it would be helpful to know the content of the screen that flashed with a message.

Even at best, repair installs are only attempts to overcome problems which rest with the O/S. They are of no value when it comes to hardware, software, or malware situations.

System manufacturer and model?

Ok i managed to overcome the original problem, however i know have a new problem. I can boot up fine in safemode, with everything appearing fine and dandy. However when i boot regularly it asks me to validate windows and then i get my wallpaper and noithing else.

In my personal experience...OEM systems (those made by Compaq/HP, eMachines, etc.) can produce errors reflecting invalid activation when the software installed by the OEM becomes damaged.

My way of dealing with this has been to delete everything installed and then do a clean install from a genuine XP CD but there are other problems which could result in the symptoms you described.

It's probably best to take it in for a hands-on look :). I would ask them to check the hard drive also...before attempting anything draastic.

Louis
