I have an old Thinkpad R52 here, and I just reloaded Windows XP Professional on it. OEM disc. I've downloaded the drivers from IBM's official page at:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58931

Using my other computer I downloaded various drivers onto a USB drive and copied them to the laptop's desktop, then installed them. Strangely, none of them seem to do anything, though. The install process for each works fine and reports no errors, but after restarting, the audio and Ethernet controllers are still unknown in the device manager.

Thanks

EDIT: I figured it out. The installers didn't work for some reason, but I was able to manually select the drivers from the folders that the installers extracted to.
