Hello all,

I have recently started getting the BSOD. I originally started getting it aboot 3 months ago, but I updated my graphic drivers and it seemed to correct the problem. Last week BSOD started to rear its ugly head again.
I cant recall anything has changed on my PC from 3 months ago. I have Win XP Home Ed. Dell DXP061/intel core 2CPU 6320@1.86GHz/2gb RAM and Nvidia 8600 GT vid card.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mad

Edit: oh yeah, ran Malwarebytes(not deep scan) and Adaware, aside from cookies detected by Adaware, both came up clean

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Most of the errors are a result of your video driver. Did you recently update it? If so, roll back to the previous version. If not, Visit the nvidia website and download and install the latest driver for your card. Be sure to uninstall the current driver first.

There is one error that concerns me and that involves a file named fxtdqpog.sys. That file appears to be malware. I'd visit the malware section of this forum and see if they can help.

I have downloaded the current vid driver from Nvidia, BUT I didnt uninstall the previous version first.
Im not quite sure how to do that. Add/remove programs? and if I uninstall the current vid driver, before I install the new one,
will the vid card work for that period of time in between drivers?

Michael

Edit: that file you are concerned about probably was malware, but its from a year ago when I had the Vundo trojan which this site helped me remove.

Here is the recommended method for nvidia driver removal: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=16154

And yes, the video card will work fine. The OS will default to its own vga driver until such time as a dedicated driver is installed.

Im sorry Allan, but I cant seem to find the "link" to click on to download the Driver cleaner.
I clicked the the "here" hyperlink you provided. On the page that opens, I cant locate the actual link
to begin the dcpro download. There are a bunch of ads for other PC tools, but I cant find the download "button" for dcpro.

I feel somewhat less than adequate at the moment, lol.

I don't really know what you've done so far. If you mean you've uninstalled the old driver and installed the new one, then we can only hope that will address the driver related bsod's. But you should still have your system checked for malware.

yes, Ive uninstalled the current drivers, downloaded dcpro, safemode, ran dcpro, restart normally, install current drivers from nvidia site.

thanks for your help.

as far as malware goes, I run malwarebytes and adaware regularly. Aside from the year old file you saw, is there something else that makes you think this PC is infected?

Just that one file. If the bsod's do not recur I guess you're good to go. Good luck :)
