I have a problem with my computer. I am running xp and my headphones which use a USB work fine, but my speakers that use the onboard jacks do not work. They dont work in either the front or back of the computer. The speakers have power, they work on other computers, they have a usb and a jack that you plug in to make work. I tried other headphones that plug into the jacks and they do not work. can someone please help me?

Did they ever work on this system? If so, what is new or different since the last time they worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

Well gee, that might have been worth mentioning.

After reinstalling the OS did you install the chipset driver followed by drivers for your sound card and video card?

Do you know if there is a driver for your onboard sound card / chip?
Look in Device Manager. Are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Download and install the realtek driver and see if that helps: http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?partNumber=5891

I have the speakers now working through my jacks in the back of the computer, thank you for that. Now is there a way to get the jacks in the front to work. My wife is being picky about the head set she uses and the ones she wants to use only have jacks and no usb.

Glad we got it working. As for the different set of jacks, I would have thought they both connect to the same place - so I really don't know, sorry.
