Identical problem here, when i click the start button then control panel, for some reason it thinks I want my IE, its like I'm hijacked,
then the window pops up IE isnt working property & is shutting down, havent tried to reinstall IE8, if it didnt work for you doubt it will work for me, but like you said, going through Mozilla > Open File > works just fine, hoping someone can give some insight into this !

Hi There,

My sister has a computer running windows vista and it has a strange problem with IE8.

I can launch IE and browse the web, but whenever I try and go to the control panel, recycle bin, or my documents it crashes and says there is a problem with IE. I am able to launch Mozilla, use file -> open and then find and open the files I want. So the files are still there, but the operating system won't let me click on the start button and then my documents and get the file. It says IE is having a problem.

I tried downloading and reinstalling IE8, but that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?
