This has been bugging me lately.

I have Windows XP Pro SP2.
Which includes the necessary drivers to upgrade from USB1.1 to USB2.0, right?

My motherboard has USB2.0 ports. However whenever I connect my USB2.0 compatible JumpDrive or Digital Camera it says it could be running on a faster port.

This device can perform faster
This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0port.

Yea all my ports are USB2.0

What gives?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Is the cable usb 2.0? That also affects the connection speed. If that is not the problem, try going into control panel uinstalling the usb 2.0 card and let windows reinstall drivers.

The cable for the digital camera is USB2.0 compatable, and so is the direct connection from the JumpDrive. I'll report back once I let windows reinstall my USB2.0 drivers.

In Device Manger, under USB controllers, do you have one entry named "ENHANCED" host controller? If it says ENHANCED, then it means you have 2.0. If not, not sure, perhaps trywhat franktiii suggested?

What devices do you have plugged into PCI slots that are unaccounted for?

Is every device on your PC working, or is one not working?

This may have to do with how Windows loads drivers at boot up, but I might know more once you answer the questions above.

At first glance I suspected a modem, but I see on your screenshot that modems are already listed, so I wasn't sure. Try installing the modem and see if the (?) bang goes away!

Ok. I will here shortly. I don't use it tho. I have it just in case I can't connect to the Net with my cable conenction I always have a back-up.

How can I tell what kind it is, and where could I get some drivers? I don't know what the name of it is, nor what model number is.

You could just remove it from your system and reboot and see if the bang goes away. At least then we would know if the modem is causing it in the first place.

But then when you have the modem out of the box, look for any telltale names or model numbers on it, google it, and find the driver. Or if you have a namebrand computer go to their support website for the driver download.

I am curious as to what you would see if you expanded the modem in the device manager by clicking on the (+) sign. Perhaps your modem is already installed.

I tried what you said about taking it out and letting it boot. I didn't have the little ?. However, I couldn't find anything on the outside of the modem. (I got this modem from a Compaq computer. I'll try to use the 6301rs model number to find out what the name of the modem is on google.com

Under the modems tab is only one thing:

Agree Win Modem

btw: Is the Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapater #2 related to the modem? Or what is it?

Good. Then we know that the bang came from the uninstalled modem. One mystery solved!

Now to find the modem driver. Try going HERE and type in the model number of the Compaq computer you got the modem from to search for the correct driver. If you find it, download it to your desktop, shut down your computer, put the modem back in, and then click on the driver download (you might have to unzip it) and install according to the prompts. Let me know if there is a problem with any of that.

This I know less about. I will research this, but I seem to remember it having to do with a failed Windows update. Have you experienced a failed update? In the meantime, see if Microsoft has any more updates for your system. Start > All Programs > Windows Update

Does THIS shed any light on the problem for you???

Particularly the following two posts:

EDIT: I had pasted parts of two posts here, but thought it might be a copyright problem, so read the entire thread for yourself and see if anything rings true for you. (It is not worth doing the Windows reninstall as suggested by one poster, IMHO)
