If you are using AVG Free 2011 ...

Double-click the AVG icon in the system tray.
In the AVG window Main Menu along the top ...
Click on Tools > Advanced settings
In the Advanced AVG settings window, in the left-side pane you will see Schedules.
Expand Schedules by clicking on the small + sign beside it.
There you will be able to configure:
  • Scheduled scan
  • Virus database update schedule
  • Program update schedule
