New windows 7 Home Premium desktop that can print when the printer is directly connected but can't print when the printer is connected to an XP pro pc. It can see it but we're getting a "driver cannot be found on the network" flag.

Are you connecting these computer's?

Have you tried Compatibility mode in W7?

There isn't any problem using the printer whether it's directly connected to the w7 or the xp machine.

I've turned on discovery and have killed network passwords. What is the compatibility mode? I don't remember that from the multitude of forums I've visited, the hours spent with the computer manufacturer or the two guys that were beta testers at Microsoft before hiring on with us. PHEW!

I omitted a key word in my previous question. "How are you connecting these computers"?

So this is a hard wired connection.

The following information may help you.

How to run Compatibility Mode.

To open the Program Compatibility Wizard go to Start> Control Panel> Programs. Click on Use an older program with this version of Windows.

Follow the instructions in the wizard.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the wizard, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.

To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
