I recently have been having BSOD issues. The machine is now running Windows7 64 bit, but was recently updated from WindowsXP. I was having issues on XP before upgrading, and they continue on 7, so I believe the issue to be hardware. The last BSOD I got was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, but have also seen MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, and others

So far I have cleaned out the dust in case/hardware
run memtest and Seagate hard drive diagnostics (no problems)
reseated cards/checked all connections
tried runnning on 1 stick of RAM (I use 2)
Run a PCPitstop driver test (everything passed)
Device manager shows no conflicts/ everything started/running fine

The only card I have installed is my Graphics Card, no expansion cards. Audio, USB, and LAN are all onboard. No hardware has been installed/changed recently. Nothing has been overclocked.

It does take a while running before it bluescreens, but it has been happening non-stop for over a month now, so there IS a problem that needs fixing, not something that will just randomly fix itself.

I am pretty capable with tech support, upgrades, etc., but need some help with this one. Any help suggested would help greatly, Thanks.

Could be the power supply or the motherboard going. I would start with the power supply.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Does it bluescreen in safe mode too? If you haven't tried, please do.

Okay, then clearly a hardware issue. To check the ram, download memtest (http://www.memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd, make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utilility). If ram passes it could be anything from a bad motherboard to a bad power supply to any number of things. I'm not a real hardware expert but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will jump in if needed.

Also, I think you can delete that report above since it's causing this page to load very slowly. Thanks - and good luck.

Allan,

As mentioned in the first post, I have already run memtest, with no errors. Thanks

Sorry, I've been away for a while. I'm not a hardware expert, but it sounds as though you've tested most components. I do know that multiple and varied bsod's can be caused by a few different things:

1) Bad mobo. I've seen it a few times.

2) Malware. Not the most likely cause, but certainly a possibility. No harm in having the folks here check for you.

3) Overheating - have you checked the temps?

4) Faulty power supply.

Those are my thoughts. Hope it helps a little.

As Allan has suggested, there are a number of possible reasons for the regular BSODs: The reported errors unfortunately do not help much in this instance. Have you noticed any particular action that is guaranteed to result in a BSOD event?

I would like to suggest that you double-check the RAM test results, before moving on to examine other possibilities. Please allow memtest86+ to run for 24 hours, unless errors are found before that time is up.

Please confirm that you are using this exact program and version: memtest86+ version 4.20 (There is another, similarly named, but different verson, simply called memtest86)

For your information, I will include the full instructions for downloading and running memtest86+, below.

Test the memory (RAM).

To make a bootable CD with memtest86+: memtest86+ home page

Direct download, version 4.20: Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)

Extract the zip file, burn the .ISO image to CD and boot from it. Allow it to run.

There MUST be NO errors what-so-ever.
If you see an error, stop the test: Test each stick of RAM separately to sort the good from the bad.

A minimum test for some confidence in the result, should be 7 full passes (each "pass" is a series of different types of tests), with NO errors.
Allow memtest86+ to run for 24 hours for maximum confidence in the test result.

AustrAlien,
I am using the correct version of memtest, I have let it run for 9 or 10 passes, but can try running for 24+ hours if needed.

There seems to be no specific action that causes the BS. Some days I watch a movie on my computer and it will BS, sometime I just leave my computer on while I'm away, and come back to a BS.

Allan,
In my bios I have enabled the temperature alarms, which have not gone off, so it is not a temperature issue. It is not a malware issue, as I have completly wiped/upgraded my computer with continuing problems. At this point Im SURE it is hardware based.
