I searched "WER6028" and found a site that listed it as a very dangerous backdoor trojan/keylogger.

I use Avast free anti-virus software and a Zone Alarm firewall and run Windows XP Pro.

I am attaching the three logs as txt files.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

I have done these procedures and the reports are attached to my original post as attachments.

I am noticing that while online my computer is slow, that text I type will not always appear as I write, and there is a definite drag at times when I'm scrolling down the page manually. I also note that when I close Firefox and start a new session immediately, I get a message that Firefox is still running. This is new behavior.

I am patiently waiting. Please advise.

I realize you are very jammed here. My computer is running online slower and slower. There seems to be a lag-time between when I do certain actions (like type text) and this morning I was unable to upload some photos to Flickr. The scrolling through a page is very sluggish, too. I've been waiting a while to hear back and provided all the information requested the first time. Then I got a message about how to submit the information (which I already had submitted) and I hope that didn't lose my place in line.

Please help.

Hi LittleGreenDots,

I have already placed your topic in a priority list (due to the length of time you've been waiting), you are currently second on that list. However, our Malware Removal Team is very busy, so I can't say when your topic will get picked up. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long.

It would be helpful if you would follow my instructions and post us a fresh set of logs - since your situation may have changed since the original ones were taken.

Casey

Yes. I need help. I take it you want me to rerun the programs

listed in the sticky note again and not attach the logs. I will do

that. I am noticing today a sluggishness in my computer activities

online. Typing text takes a good second or two to appear on the

screen, and scrolling on the page also seems to have a dead zone

before I have control of the movements. I'm really concerned about

a key logging program on my system. Also, when I shut down my

system, I noticed that the desktop screen flashed twice during shut

down.

I apologize for the delay as I have not been home for a few days.

Something really odd occurred when I was preparing all these logs for you. When I ran the GMER report, I disconnected my computer from the Internet while the scan was running and when I plugged back into the modem (I use a modem), the ZoneAlarm firewall said it found a new network and I configured it for the Internet, not for the Trusted Zone (don't know if this even matters) and the speed is up to where it used to be. And I'm not experiencing any lag time.

To review what's going on...

I run Windows XP Pro.

Recently I have had two blue screens of death during booting. The

last was just days before I first posted my request for help here.

I checked the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer on

this incident and it listed the following information.

C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6028.dir00\Mini011811-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6028.dir00\sysdata.xml

I searched online for "WER6028" and found a discussion about it

being a dangerous back door trojan/key logger.

Here is the complete information listed from the Event Viewer:

Hello

I am not to worried about the bluescreens as the last one was two weeks ago and you only had two

I will go thru and make sure you are malware free

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

I disabled my AV and firewall and ran ComboFix. It had issues with the restore point and I had to download a fix or an update from Microsoft before it would continue. I've had issues with restore points all along, since the last time I reinstalled everything on this computer, about six months ago. I have been unable to use restore points.

Anyway, Combofix ran and created the attached log.

Before I ran the program, my internet activities have been very sluggish. Text has had a few seconds hang time before appearing and I had real problems scrolling the page. These are problems I've been having lately. I told you the other day that I unplugged my modem then and rebooted and Zone Alarm (my firewall) popped up, something about a new connection, which I clicked on 'internet' rather than 'trusted zone' and immediately my internet speed was increased, like it used to be. I have cable internet and I think my address renews itself periodically.

As for how my computer is doing now, I'll have to use it today and get back with you later or tomorrow, and tell you if things are moving any faster.

Did you see anything in the log report?

If you don't like Adobe Reader (53 MB), you can download Foxit PDF Reader(7 MB) from here. It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.

Quick question before I jump in...about Adobe Reader. I have the Adobe Premium Suite installed on my computer. Will uninstalling v9.3 interfere with anything Adobe on my computer? I create Adobe PDF files quite a bit and don't want to mess things up. I've noticed that my MS Scanner and Camera Wizard (which I use a lot) doesn't pop up now, and hopefully when we're all finished, I can get that back. I prefer it over the Adobe Bridge program I also have. Adobe is very strange software as it seems to add all kinds of unidentified (to me, at least) in a folder.

Adobe Reader is a program byitself and will not interfere with the other adobe programs

You mean it does not start when you boot up or when you plug in the camera

I'm having problems updating the Adobe Reader X. I uninstalled v9.3 as you told me and when I followed the link you provided (disabling my AV software first) the site took me to a screen showing various potential problems (screenshots) and I chose a region and didn't find any INSTALL buttons. I've disabled all my Firefox script-blocking, ad-block, etc.

Last spring I purchased the Adobe CS4 Premium and wonder if that has anything to do with why I can't download the Reader? Doesn't the purchased product come with a different version of the Reader?

About the Scanner/Camera Wizard, the auto-play is not working anymore on my computer and is driving me bonkers as I am an active photographer and use that program to download images onto my computer from a card reader. I tried using the Adobe Bridge and had a lot of problems with it (because I don't understand exactly how the program works and made some wrong choices.) I prefer to use the MS Scanner...it's way easier for naming the downloaded files the way I want.

Please advise. I'm sorry about the huge delays but due to recent circumstances (taking care of a sick relative) I am only home for an hour or two a day.

working on the autostart

the reason it was turned off is it is a security risk and a well known way for malware to install itself
