Whoever can help me---

I recently discovered some sort of virus/spyware on my computer.

When I try to open any application it gives me the message:
"Cannot open application because it is infected. Do you want to run Antivirus Software?"

There is also a new fake virus protection program on the bottom right of my taskbar. It pops up with a fake virus scan screen when I open the internet.

I cannot open any of my virus protection applications (malwarebytes, superantispyware, etc) when in regular mode. But I can in safe mode.

I have run a complete scan using SuperAntiSpyware and removed all of the threats that it found but it has not resolved the problem.

I am running Windows XP Professional.

Please help/advise me on what to do ASAP. It will be much appreciated!
