Hi and Thank You in advance of any advice/help offered for this issue.
I have just ran an Everest scan and it has told me that there is Bios Update available for my laptop, as the Bios version I have is old (sept 2006),I went to the site that Everest showed for the update but, after it scanned it wanted me to pay a subscription fee ($29.99)for me to download the latest update for my Bios, in short i do not want to pay for this update and was wondering if there is a free tool/sofware available to download this update, it would have to be able to run on windows 7 if there is such a tool/software.

E-System 3086
Celeron M420 1.6GHz
940GML(calistoga)+ ICH7-M 128MB
80GB HDD
2.0 GB DDR2 533
Windows 7 Ultimate

First of all, bios updates are free and available from the website of your computer or mobo manufacturer. Second, as suggested above if there is no reason to update the bios, don't

Improve how?

As already stated twice. If you are not experiencing any issues then leave well enough alone. A botched BIOS update attempt can turn your system into an expensive paper weight.

A BIOS flash shold only be performed on a system where the BIOS update specifically addresses an issue that you are having.

Personally, I havent flashed a BIOS in well over 10+ years. Most times there is no need.
As ThunderZ says you could end up with a paperweight.
In the beginning there was the command line.

Thanks to ALL that have replied, I have taken on board the advice given and decided against doing the update, the last thing i need is to create major issues with my machine by botching up a bios flash!!!!

Thanks.
Iain.
