I have a Windows XP SP3 PC. The sound is only comming out from the headphone and not the PC speaker. However, the "beep" sound works when I am in safemode (The beep warning sound). Also in BIOS, when I hold the f8 key to enter safe mode, the beep sound works. Weird. I have removed Norton and reinstalled the sound driver to no avail (sound does not work even with Norton uninstalled). I have also re-flashed the BIOS as well.

The beep is coming from the internal speaker, not the external speakers.

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

I've fixed it :D

I download the Direct X software from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d and unzip the file. Then I installed the direct x software. After that, I reinstalled the sound driver again. That fixed it.
