i got the same issue with my computer.

running win xp.
it's on my external hard drive

i got these folders:
$RECYCLE.BIN
RECYCLER
System Volume Information

they appear as application instead of folders
original folders are hidden and appear as read only
i tried removing read only but i cannot uncheck hidden option since it is grayed out.

i tried deleting these files on safe mode
running full scan using malware bytes so as USB disk security but still doesn't fix the problem
i also observed that my C drive is starting to be full
seems like it's using my local disk space as well.

please help. anything else i can do for this?
