i had MSAS when it first came out, and then started to have the usual bugs that are common with a beta version, i then uninstalled it and went about my merry way, i then this AM decided to give it another whirl, i installed it, was running a quick scan for the first time, the usual...it asked if i wanted to check for updates, i said yes, then it had a box stating that it was unable to connect to the internet i believe the exact message is " Warning! could not connect to the internet." then below that it reads "Updates have failed. Autoupdates could not detect an internet connection" here is a screenshot (notice IE is open in background to the MCAS homepage... Posted Image )
I proceeded to run the scan, and try again later, still the same message. I then checked my Firewall, which is Sygate free version and all is allowed, it is the same exact setup as before i uninstalled it the first time about 4-5 months ago. other software(s) are as follows....

AVG free
Spysweeper (paid)
AdAware SE free
Spybot S@D
SpywareBlaster
MVPS Hosts File
IESpyad
A-Squared free

Operating System
Windows XP Home SP2
Utopia DSL Modem
Linksys Router (wired)

any ideas or thoughts? thank you for your time and assistance.

For it's few quirks it is a valuable tool. I put it on 2 to 5 systems a week. I think any issues you may have had have been resolved. Worst case you uninstall it again.
My thoughts.

Tried that, and the reasoning i had uninstalled it in the first place was that it would not and/or could not install a newer version when one was released, and as stated before, i had done that maybe 4-5 months ago, but it did update then with no problems, just now, it will not, i had uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still receive the same error, exactly as the screenshot provided....any other thoughts? thank you

I am getting the same error today. I also read on a MS support forum that others are having issues.
Try it again later.

Thanks,
JC

some times a firewall may get in the way of the updates try if you have a FW try to turn it off if you are using windows security center go in to the center and temporaly turn it off
Just a thought

Mike

i came here for the same error

i think there is a problem with the update site. i'm on DSL and all other programs get on line. i checked firewall event logs and there is no problem.

You are using SyGate, right click the tray icon. Select application. Check all of the assoicated items with MSAS.

all is fine with the firewalls, i spoke with a tech support from microsoft this morning, named "A.J." and he said that part of the server error is fixed but not all. some can update, some cannot, and they are currently still working on the problem(s). IT IS A SERVER ERROR and not one with the system or application in general. when the update goes out to search, it cannot reach a server and the pop up is the application automatically assuming that your Internet Connection is down, or disabled, but to show some patients when looking for an automatic update as the servers that are working are being bogged down by too many requests. He also stated that for at least now, if possible, manually update it until such time as all the servers are up and running again. I had posted here http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsg...f9-70b93e235074 as well....
