Hello RobAldo ,

Posted Image

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. IF YOU USE AVG IT MUST BE UNINSTALLED OR THIS WILL NOT RUN.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to RobAldo.exe and try again.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hello,

Don't worry about uninstalling the Security Essentials. AVG is the main worry here, so let's try this :

* Open notepad - don't use any other text editor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quote box below into notepad:

Teacups,
Sorry for the delay. I tried dragging the script you sent me into the combofix area and it did not generate any type of prompt, it seemed to only display the copied text from the notepad copy & paste I did, I left it alone for an hour and tried it again and the same result. Since I dont know how long combofix takes to run or what prompts to look for I figured it was ok to drag the script into the combofix area for a second time. Any help would be greatly apprciated,
Rob

Hello,

Please forgive the basic question, but did you name the file exactly as I posted it? If not, it won't run.

teacups,
I made sure the name was exactly has you stated, tried it twice more and I am still not able to run combofix...on another note, the darnest thing has occured, the re-direct issues are no longer happening and the computer seems to be running smoother than it has in weeks! go figure! I would still like to run combofix to address some underlying issuses, so let me know what you think could be happening here and how to continue, thanks,
Rob

Hi there,

Well, glad it's better, but I don't trust that....unless you've run something else that might have helped?

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
Download Link 1
Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Thanks,
tea

Tea,
I was able to download and run MBAM and I am sending you the scan log has requested. I have two quick questions; after reboot I am still getting that annoying pop up that tries to install Roxio Media Manager for at least 10 to 15 minutes, I have to continually click cancel in order to get it stop and sometimes it will just pop up later. The other question, I downlowed 2 links from your previous email request and only used the first MBAM setup file, will I be using the second file or just shut up and wait for further direction!
Here is the log you requested:
Thanks again, Rob

Hi,

We always provide alternate links in case one or the other isn't working. You only need one of them. :)

Have you uninstalled Roxio Media Manager then? It is present in your installed programs list from your initial post.

How is it running otherwise?

Tea,
Thats the really wierd thing, there is not a Roxio program listed when I go to add/remove programs. Could there be another area where it would be listed?

Tea,
I found Roxio like you said in Program Files, it has 11 folders in it,..I ran a MBAM scan on just those 11 folders and they came up clean. I dont think I need any of that, would you like me to delete the entire program file? Thanks for your help again, my computer has been running pretty good since we started communicating.
Rob
