Hi. Like so many others, when I use a search engine, I am redirected to advertisment sites. It is not happening on other computers in my house. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium Ed on a Dell Pentium Dual Core processor. I have run Malwarebytes and it found nothing. I run Symantec Endpoint Protection and it seems to be working fine.

Here is my DDS log:

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix.. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.. Please re-enable them back after performing all steps given..

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.

During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.

**NOTE: If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
  • Tools->Options->Main tab
  • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

After that, double-click and run Combo-Fix. Let it finish its job and post the log here

If ComboFix asked you to install Recovery Console, please do so.. It will be your best interest..

Note: DON'T do anything with your computer while ComboFix is running.. Let ComboFix finishes its job..

Keep calm, make it simple, use your brain, don't freak out, and you'll be just fine..

Firstly, how's the computer now? still got the redirect issues?

Keep calm, make it simple, use your brain, don't freak out, and you'll be just fine..

I think the redirect issues are gone. So ... thanks for the help.

Any ideas what I 'had' from the above scripts? Anything I should be worried about residually? And (most importantly) any idea how I got it so I can avoid it in the future?

Again, thanks.

we just removed two nasty files that responsible to those redirect issues.. Try using your computer for another two days, and if everything is good, we can close this topic :)

I haven't had any problems, so it seems like everything worked correctly. Again, thank you.

Can I safely remove $RECYCLE.BIN, 32788R22FWJFW, and Combo-Fix from my computer now? (I think the first two folders and part of Combo-Fix's process.)

Remove these two

32788R22FWJFW
Combo-Fix

As for "$RECYCLE.BIN", I think that is your recycle bin.. I don't think you need to remove that folder.

Anymore question? :)
