Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 1. McAfee virus scan, subscribed and active.

Starting a couple days ago, at least that I've noticed, the following things have started happening:

- Pressing F1 for "Help" in AutoCAD freezes AutoCAD.

- Loaded AutoDesk's DWF viewer and I get an error message when I open it: "The procedure entry point GetProcAddress@ could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.". It eventually lets me in, but I have to hit 'OK' 5-10 times before it does.

- I'm usually reluctant to use System Restore, but wanted to use it this time, and got the same error message as above. I hit 'OK' and it never lets me in for this one.

- At random points, a particular program will get "stuck", according to Task Manager, and will not fully close, and will keep the CPU usage at 50% constantly. Sometimes when I keep trying to end the task, the screen will go blank, and the only way to reset everything is to manually shut it down and reboot. Not good to do very often, I know. Regardless, the offending program will NOT go away. Sometimes it's a program that I was just in, sometimes it's SVCHOST.EXE.

- I have tried to run McAfee virus scan and it doesn't find anything, but always hangs up on the same file, "...IEXPLORE.IE5\OF1BY6ZX\index[13].php", under the temp directory. I have run McAfee three times, and it always gets hung up on the same file. I have tried to delete it, even in Safe Mode, but cannot. I did manage to delete everything else within the directory, then rename the directory.

- I have Microsoft updates set for automatic. I tried to download Service Pack 2 using the 'express' option, and it searched my computer for 13 hours (overnight) looking for what I needed updated, and was still 'searching' when I woke up the next morning.

Other things I have attempted:

- Cleaned out temporary internet files, and there were alot. There are three files that do not want to budge, however. I once read a trick to delete almost any stubborn file, but can't remember it now.

- Downloaded and replaced kernel32.dll. Didn't change anything with opening the programs mentioned above.

- Downloaded and ran PC Doc Pro 3.5. That helped with alot of other small minor annoyances, but did nothing for the kernel32.dll problem.

Your post really needs to be posted in the Hijack This thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/

It is suggested that you run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, setting them to fix what they find, create a new Hijack This log, and post it in the appropriate forum.

I did run Trend Micro Anti-Spyware, but I will try the ones you suggest, and run HiJack again and post in the other forum. Thanks.
