My USB mouse has stopped working since yesterday. The port on my laptop is fine since pendrives etc. are working OK.The red light on the base of mouse is also OK.
But the mouse isnt responding .The cursor doesnt move.Neither do teh left click /right click have any effect.

Please suggest where the problem may lie ??

And is it in my scope to repair it myself ?

Thaks
Jose

Try the mouse on another computer to see if it's the mouse or your computer.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

If you try the mouse on another computer you will be able to determine if it has failed. You now know that it isn't the computer.

Did you change the settings for the laptop to use the onboard mouse rather than the USB one?
Go to control panel and check in mouse settings, you may need to only use the keyboard as follows:
Hold Down the WINDOWS key and press the R Key.
Type in control and then hit ENTER key.
Use the direction pad to move to the Mouse and Input Devices icon then hit the Enter key.
Check the settings here, you may need to use the ALT key to navigate.

So... is there going to be a burial service for the dead mouse?

I was only trying to help determine the health of this mouse. Obviously it has died, and is well beyond resurrection.

In the industry there is a procedure that is applied to some electronics known as a burn-in period or infant mortality stage which usually will cause "weak" components to die. Unfortunately this doesn't happen with less expensive items such as a mouse. So there will be the occasional "infant mortality" in the field.

If this mouse was a product of a reputable manufacturer you should have a one year warranty, take it back for an exchange.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

You may have pulled the wire out too far from the original connectors either on the USB or mouse ends, recheck them as this happens quite frequently where the cable is pulled out too far causing disconnection of the communication cable.

Btw you can buy a cheap USB optical mouse on ebay for ~$5 shipping included...
