This is my roommate's laptop. It has had RAM issues in the past. A couple of months ago it was freezing often, either when starting up, or when running certain programs. I suggested he try replacing the RAM, which he did, and that fixed the problem for a while. Both RAM sticks were replaced.

It started freezing again recently, under the same circumstances (during video games). It was happening rarely in the last couple of weeks, and then started happening more often last night, and this morning it wouldnt turn on at all.

He tried removing the battery and running the laptop directly from the outlet, but it still wouldnt turn on.

The power light (on the front of the laptop) is currently green, suggesting it is on. When I press the power button, sometimes the DVD drive makes a bit of noise (I think that's what it is - there was a DVD inside). If I unplug the charger and then plug it back in, the battery light (next to the power light on the front of the laptop bottom half) turns orange,

If I hold the power button, the light indicator for the power goes off. If I press the power again, the power light goes green, and the light that is furthest to the right (icon looks like a cylinder) turns orange briefly and the DVD drive makes its noise.

So.... any ideas what this means? I'm worries that it looks like an issue with the motherboard, but could it be something simpler like the power supply?

Maybe if we had a model number.

I am a retired Ford tech. Next to Fords, any computer is a piece of cake. (The cake, its not a lie)
