This laptop ws infected through an advert via java, the trojan which it downloaded also installed a few viruses adware spyware and whatnot, i have nearly solved most of it except for the last thing, my computer keeps opening iexplore.exe in background and browses god knows what websites, and some of the windows keep crashing producing a internet explorer was forced to close error, i am not sure which websites the virus visits, but one of them a minute ago started with some music -.- which didnt play for very long due to a crash in about 20 sec or so. It all started with a pop up, your computer is infected, download this software now, then after removal, the redirections started along with the random iexplorer.exe crashes

last crash

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 8.0.6001.18702 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00af2663

after finishing with the redirection problem a few hours ago, the iexplorer problem remains.

i have used the following tools

avast, malwarebytes, spybot s&d, ccleaner, Registry Mechanic, all fully up to date
The problem remains that random iexplorer keep opening in the background and browsing w.e. content they wish. ps the virus or w.e. this is likes ie and keeps setting it as default every few mins if its changed.

The redirection problem is back while the iexplorer.exe problem is gone. I didnt fix or attempt to fix it any further yesterday, and simply turned the machine off, this morning the problem with iexplorer runing in background + crashes is gone while the redirection problem is back, the websites it redirects to are random and mostly search engines, google opens as normal however after search if opening the result in the same window, the browser redirects, if opened in a tab or in a new window, it opens the website as normal. C:\Documents and Settings\alla\Local Settings\Temp\boost_interprocess reappeared after deletion, it was gone after several restarts but is back again today. Lots of 'crap' in the temporary internet folder, probably from what the iexplorer was browsing in background, e.g.

http://www.onlineprinters.com/$WS/diedruckerei/websale7_shop-diedruckerei/benutzer/templates/02-aa/images/re_design/icon_gb-flahne-klein.png

and no, after purging all the files in temp and internet temp, i did not browse such random websites...... 5 mins after writing this i had an epiphany, just bowsed the history, and found some websites the virus was browsing, after noting yesterday that the virus had started playing random music, i just found what it played and from where -_-
i can also post some other links but from what i understand now, that the iexplorer just redownloaded more viruses onto the machine, so id rather not link any to prevent any further reinfection. the iexplorer just popped up again in the background so there might be a timer for it to come back every 5 minutes or so. the process is accompanied by another iexplorer.exe one of them being 18k in memory the other ranging from 50k (usual) to 100k upon which it produced crashes.

the new log, upon which i note i only have 3 google chrome tabs open.. therefore this browser is probably hijacked now as well.
I will turn this laptop off and disable the network card, and communicate through my other uninfected machines, then transfer any data via memory stick until this problem is solved, thanks again in advance for any assistance.

EDIT: iexplorer.exe problem still there but it takes around 5 mins for it to develop, lots of crashes follow

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    Posted Image

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

During the scan more iexplorer.exe errors came up again, wireless is switched off so it cannot download anything more, it tries to do so when it is on.

anyway the scan was almost complete but BSOD just happend a minute ago

Plug and Play detected an error most likely caused by a faulty driver

STOP: 0x000000CA (0x00000004, 0z89107458, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
i can restart and give it another go, well I will restart anyway

EDIT -.- switch was on, so internet present during the check, due to the fact that combofix had to download the recovery console, i can do another run with internet switched off

Hello

Ok lets try this, I want you to run combofix in safe mode but it is very important that when combofix reboots the computer for you to direct it back into safe mode so it can finish the scan.

Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

after combofix has finished its scan please post the report back here.

I want you to run this tool for me next.

tdsskiller:

Please read carefully and follow these steps.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

It looks OK now, no redirections so far, I didn't think that shadow copy was available in XP -.- besides having the recovery files from system restore.

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it =)
