Recently, I often get the following error soon after startup: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I ignore the error box, I can usually continue working. If I send the error report or otherwise close the error box, most times this causes my laptop to become unresponsive (but not totally frozen) and I will have to do a hard shutdown.

Some details from the most recent occurrence follows:

szAppName: svchost.exe szAppVer: 5.1.2600.5512 szModName: ntdll.dll szModVer: 5.1.2600.5755 offset: 00023845

Files associated with the crash:

Prior to this error beginning, I had a bout with a virus or two that I thought I had completely eradicated using Malwarebytes. Occassionally, I get redirected or pop up tabs to websites when using Firefox. I generally get these closed out before they have a chance to fully load. Perhaps there is still something lurking that av has been unable to clean out that is causing my current problem? Recent scans using Malwarebytes, Adaware, & AVG have turned up nothing.

I have noticed that my laptop has also been running slower than before the viruses and takes longer to start up. While this could be due to the av software that I have been adding and removing from my system, I would like to investigate and speed this up (maybe by removing some unnecessary start up programs) if possible.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Closed working here.

How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook
