Windows XP running IE8 and Firefox (2? I think). Initially had Memory Fixer on it (fake scanner program that's actually malware). As a side effect of that (seemed to come up at the same time as the memory fixer), web searches (tried Google, Bing and Yahoo) never seem to take me where they link says they're going to. I end up on mototheme or scour etc etc. I have Symantec Corporate 9 install and running, I've run Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro and against this boards advice, ComboFix (I was desperate since this is a work computer). Since running ComboFix, I regularly get a box telling me that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, probably every 3-5 minutes, and the program hasn't been opened since restarting. I ran DDS and have those logs, but when running GMER, the IE closed thing came up and I hit space bar to click on Don't Send and I think I must have double hit space because then it told me the GMER scan stopped. When I tried to run it again, it just closed and then hung when I tried it a third time. After a restart tonight I will try to run it again tomorrow. Thanks a ton for any help you're able to provide!

============= FINISH: 17:02:42.09 ===============

Sorry to bump, but I wanted to add my atk.log file now that it's finally finished (took the better part of 5 hours to run this morning).

I'm going to begin backing up files in case I need to reinstall Windows, which I'd really rather not do.

Merged posts. ~ OB

Thanks for the response. However, in the middle of snow and the fact that I'd already spent 3 days trying to fix the computer before posting here, my management has just decided to forgo the data loss and have me reimage the computer. Assistance is no longer needed for this one.

Thanks.
