Hi!
My daughter got a link via MSN Messenger og visited this link without using her head. So then she got a lot of malware. I have managed to remove most of them myself, but there is one remaining which will not be removed.
Malwarebytes detects it fine, and I can remove it. But as soon as I close the browser, it gets right back.
It changes the startpage to almost everything. But after I stopped the system recovery feature in Windows, it now only gives "About:blank" everytime I start Explorer.
Does anyone have a clue on how to get rid of this? Looking forward to get some professional help on this matter. Thank you very much, cheers :-D

Hmm, nobody can't help?
Is there other good forums where I can try to get help with my issue?
Hoping for an answer.

Best regards.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

We need to create a New FULL OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here if you have not done so already:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Change the "Extra Registry" option to "SafeList"
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Best Regards,

Hi!

Thank you very much for your answer. I totally understand that you have a lot of requests because of these issues, and I have no hard feelings. I will keep posting this forum if I get stuck with a cyber space monster I can't get rid off. The reason for my inquiry, is that a hardware failure also occured so I had to request for a Dell service. I wanted to get rid of this hijacker before Dell came and picked up my computer for service.
The good news, is that I got rid off the hijacker myself.
I de-activated system restore in Windows. Ran Malwarebytes one more time, and the program picked up the hijacker. Then I removed it and deleted everything in the quarantine section. After that I went into Explorer and reset all settings and changed the startpage back to my favorite one.
Then I restarted the computer and activated system restore in Windows again. Ran Malwarebytes one more time, and it didn't find any trace of the hijacker.
So I got rid off it :thumbup2: Now Internet Explorer starts with my favorite startpage every time.

Thank you very very much for replying to my request. I can promise you that I'll post back in this forum again if something similar appears :thumbup2:

Best regards to all of you fantastic people who use your free time and effort to help us clueless people. Keep up your amazing work

It appears that this issue is resolved, therefore I am closing the topic. If that is not the case and you need or wish to continue with this topic, please send me or any Moderator a Personal Message (PM) that you would like this topic re-opened.
