Hi everyone, I need some help. Recently, my computer has had several BSOD errors randomly, one specific time when trying to use a USB camera attached to the monitor. At around the same time, I started getting bizzare unable to connect pages from my web browsers, suggesting something about proxy settings. After changing all of the settings back to normal, the browser worked normally. Yet the next time I used the browser, the same old Unable to connect due to proxy settings came up. This screen only shows up once, and afterward it reverts to the more standard "unable to connect" that one would see if he or she were not connected to any form of internet along with a "work offline" option. The computer also regularly fails to hibernate, staying at the XP welcome/shut down screen until the battery dies.

I have an ASUS Eee PC 1005HAB with Windows XP home edition. GMER does not run, but I will include a DDS log.

I wanted to add that streamtorrent, a program used for watching streaming tv channels, has been acting weird, but all of this started way before I installed ST. Should I uninstall anyway because of the nature of the program?

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

Hi Gringo, thank you for replying! I was about to give up hope, but luckily this afternoon I logged on and saw your reply. I really appreciate the community service you guys provide. I am regularly reading the forum to see what's going on, though a bit self-conscious to post since I am quite the amateur in terms of this kind of computing!

Regardless, the latest on my particular situation is a continued decrease in performance while internet connections are enabled. Programs that use internet access are unable to connect to servers, websites, etc. as per proxy settings that I have not personally change. The interesting part is that "proxy" message only shows up once and for a very brief moment, followed by the more traditional message one receives if his or her computer is not connected to the internet. Hibernation issues do arise, though they are inconsistent. The hibernation issue, however, only occurs when the internet connection is enabled. A particularly vexing problem occurs while playing games or running demanding software; the program being used (especially if running full screen) will crash with no error message to follow. This, along with the others, only occurs if a live internet connection is present.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?
