Hey guys, dont know if you have any ideas what can be happening on my end ...

Just before christmas i had to reformat my PC according to dell because
my Hal.DLL file was screwed up, so i did i followed all of their instructions
on reinstalling drivers in the proper order after reinstalling windows xp,
after i did the reinstall i noticed my programs were using alot of memory
maxing with everything i was doing, so yet again i did another reformat
installed the drivers in the correct order again, updated all win updates
and i am still expeirencing the same thing again, at idle im between 20-65
sometimes more, and while running certain apps , like windows media player
for instance, my memory shoots through the roof, causing skipping of audio
while browsing the net, or even opening notepad, i look in task manager
and i am getting close to 80% used, i dont know what is causing this
anything i use is running real high, do any of you have any idea what could
be happening, i am using a Dell e1705 1.73ghz 120gb hdd , 1 gig ram and
Win Xp, any help or suggestions you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated

thanks :)

Download, Unzip and run Process explorer:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

After it is running, click on File > Save As let it save as Procexp.txt and attach the file to your next post.

With 1GB of ram, 30% - 40% at idle is not out of the ordinary.

Is your ram 1 single 1GB stick or 2 512MB sticks?

One other thought. Are you certain you are looking at memory usage and not CPU usage?

sorry yes, CPU usage goes that high and memory usage is is always in the high numbers too , it is 1 1gb stick in the pc, i really find it strange because
before i reformated everything was perfect, none of this happened, i did what you said for the file im attaching it here

thanks for taking a look at my post..

Well, when you saved that file you were using less than 5%. Try running it again when you are experiencing high cpu usage. When you run it again, before saving the txt file, click on "view" then "select columns" and check the "command line" box.

Have you added all of the windows updates since the re-install?

Ok, Firefox is using ~ 38% and Media player a little under 28% and Kaspersky ~ 6%

Follow the guide HERE for publishing a speccy report and post back so we can get a better idea of the system state.

Everything looks ok there, although you do have 2x 512Mb ram, not 1x 1Gb as you thought.

Your Media player cpu use is pretty normal if you where playing a video.

Where you on a website with active content, like streaming video or just a static site?

Try launching Firefox in safe mode and see if the results are the same.

Were you using the Kaspersky 2011 previous to this?
