Hi,

I'm running Windows XP Profossional 2002. After installing some applications an AOL icon appaerred on the desktop. I think it was the WINAMP that added the icon but I'm not sure since i did not notice it right away. The icon is a shortcut to AOL Website. The icon can neighter be simply deleted nor be found in "Add/Remove programs". I also could not find a remove option in the aol link. How do I remove it?

Thanks for your attention!

Why don't you try and delete the icon while in Safe Mode

It is all the same. Even in Safe Mode I simply don't have a delete option.

PS: I forgot to say that I also tried uninstalling the WINAMP, but the icon remained.

You don't have to do anything with your registry, just

1. Boot your Windows in the SAFE MODE
2. Log in as the ADMINISTRATOR (use only the original ADMINISTRATOR account, not any of those that you created)
3. Right click on the evil icon
4. Select DELETE

See if this works.

Also what security programs do you have? If any.
As in spyware/adware programs. And what antivirus program do you have? If you have such, I suggest that you update them all, and run them.

I missed this point the first time. Thanks a lot!

Regarding personal protection, I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus, McAfee Personal Firewall, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster and I run weekly Spybot and Ad-Aware.

You are welcome!

Can I assume that you have been able to remove the "evil" icon?

You are doing fantastic as far as your security protection goes.

So if the advice worked, you should be good to go.
