I have found a couple of very good free programs but I'm having trouble using them. I downloaded Abi Word Setup 2.8.6 and its a very good program. Problem is I want to use it together with Nuance PDF reader which will convert PDF's to workable format word processing. When I try to set up Abi as the default format for word procesing extensions the list it populates only includes (go figure) the trial programs I had that no longer work like MS Works and similar programs.

It is making me crazy that I cannot get this program to be available to select for default use.

I have a Windows 7 32/64 bit laptop and I really need to get this figured out asap as I am working on some legal docs and this is a major obstacle. If you can help tell me what I'm doing wrong I'd be very grateful thanks.

When you are selecting the default program (after right-click, Open With) you get a list of programs and the main selection are the "known" apps. To set another one, select "Choose Program", hit the Browse button and once you have selected the appropriate exe check the box "Always use......". I don't have Win7 but you can find the exact menus here.
