Hi

First of all, I have tried the prep guide, and couldn't go through having any logs because my winlogon.exe is infected.

Here's what happened and what I tried to resolve (like deactivating antivir in safe mode, but even in safe mode I have the virus running...)

I have recently been infected with TR/PATCHED.GEN

when I startup my computer, after login into my windows account, I have my antivirus popping up warnings that :

winlogon.exe
explorer.exe

are infected and it can't login completely to my session, it stays to the popup from Antivir, so I can't download anything, I don't even have access to my desktop...

I have windows XP Home Edition
I am using AVIRA Anitivir antivirus

I wanted to deactivate the Antivirus, by Starting in SAFE MODE, but even that way, I went to that blue windows password page, typed my password and then still got my antivirus warning...

Is there any way you can help me ?

Kind Regards

D Troy

  • Verify the correct drive letter is selected for your USB device then click OK
  • It will install a little bootable OS on your USB device
  • Once the files have been written to the device you will be prompted to reboot ~ do not reboot and instead just Exit the UNetbootin interface
  • After it has completed do not choose to reboot the clean computer simply close the installer

  • Remove the USB and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer
  • Press F12 and choose to boot from the USB

Dear Gringo,

Thank you for your message and sorry for not replying due to the holiday season, and I appreciate the time you're using to help me.
I will only have access to a 2nd XP computer by this friday.
Is it ok from you to wait until this friday so that I can make the logs you advised me to do?
Please don't close this post, I will really need your help putting back up my main computer.

Kind Regards.

D Troy

Yes, I will tomorrow, the only computer I have now available is a mac... and I don't have a windows session on it.
I will only be able to install on the USB key tomorrow, when I get a working XP computer available.
Thanx again for your patience.

Hi
I have downloaded the files you advised me to do, installed them just like you told me.

When I try to reboot my sick computer from the USB, I have to press F8 to choose the boot Menu...

then I see the list of my drives, and I do select the USB flash disk.

then it goes to a black page with 2 written lines and tells me :

remove the disk

press any key to restart

when I press "any key", it tries to run XP, and then I go back to the problem where I have to type my XP password and then blocks because of the virus...

Do you want me to make screenshots to show you what I see?

Thank you Gringo

DT

Lets see if it will boot from a cd

You will need a USB drive.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer
  • Run GETxPUD.exe
  • A new folder will appear on the desktop.
  • Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
  • The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
  • Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
  • Next download driver.sh to your USB drive
  • Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
  • The computer must be set to boot from the CD
  • Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
  • Follow the prompts
  • A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD
  • sdb1 is likely your USB
  • Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?)
  • Confirm that you see driver.sh that you downloaded there
  • Press Tool at the top
  • Choose Open Terminal
  • Type bash driver.sh
  • Press Enter
  • After it has finished a report will be located on your USB drive named report.txt
