I noticed that my computer was acting strangely just the other day. So, I booted it up in safe mode and ran MBAM, and it found 1 virus and got rid of it. I thought the problem was solved, but I subsequently ran into more problems. I went into safe mode with networking again, while looking up stuff on this site. My computer crashed after a while, with this message:

Stop: c000059d Unknown Hard Error
Unknown Hard Error

I went into safe mode without networking, and had no problems. I ran a DDS, which is obviously included below.

As for the specific things I have noticed, other than what the DDS includes, one of the instances of svchost.exe keeps on taking all of my free processor space; whenever I end process it, it merely reboots itself. However, when I did safe mode without networking, I had no problems with it; this makes me believe that the virus will only execute with access to the internet.

Also, I noticed several instances of "White smoke" running at some point, though I can't remember when. It may have been the virus that MBAM got rid of.

And here's my DDS:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thanks.

Actually, my computer just crashed again. Luckily firefox saved the stuff I'd already written (Everything below this paragraph). I'm only posting the preliminary GMER log, as my computer can't finish doing a full scan, and the preliminary one already has indicated a rootkit of some kind. I'll upload a full scan as soon as I can.

I was in the middle of posting a new log when my computer crashed. When it booted up again, so many different viruses were installed that it was ridiculous. I couldn't open task manager, access any webpages (though I fixed that), and was besieged by at least two other viruses (white smoke and some fake antivirus thing).

Right now I'm working in safe mode with networking; otherwise, it would be impossible to do anything at all.

Thanks for helping!

Hi Monkeezrule,

Please try and run the following:

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\TDSSKiller folder). Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
