Problem with hpdskflt.sys

The problem is on the HP Elite Book 8730W with Windows XP pro.

I cannot start it , and to contact you , I use my very old laptop ( with a lot of problems on the screen , ( white bars , and I cannot read what is under that big white bar , not easy ... ) ).

I cannot start the laptop " normally " .

and the ctrl+alt+del does not work .

I had to press the power button on the laptop to shut down .

When I start , I press F8 .

Safe mode does not work .

It goes till hpdskflt.sys , then it freezes there .

Safe mode with prompt :

It goes till hpdskflt.sys , then it freezes there also .

Last known good configuration

does not work either

it goes to windows and windows freezes ( Windows logo screen , the blue bar slides across ) .

Browsing Internet for information , I got this :

hpdskflt.sys is a driver

company: Hewlett-Packard
description: HP Disk Filter

file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\hpdskflt.sys

product: Mobile Data Protection System

This device is a sensor that monitors movements of the laptop and reduces system failures caused by accidental drops and shocks .

and it can be triggered by several events ....

could it be a virus ?

before it happened , there were suspicious actions .

what should I do now ?

I cannot launch windows

(and I do not have the XP Pro installation disc )

Would you be so kind as to help me with some useful advice so I could try and fix the problem .

Thanks in advance for your time and attention .

fmr

P.S. I hope I gave enough details , and sorry for my clumsy English

When I start , I press F8 .
Safe mode does not work .

Hi -
I hope that you are Tapping F8 at startup and not just holding the key down -
As soon as the Xp screen is about to start , begin Tapping F8 and see if this makes any difference -
See if you can borrow a XP CD to match your system from someone else (the program is the same) - You do not have to re register with another CD -

Thank You -

Hi-
Is there any chance that you can beg, buy, or borrow a CD from someone you know ?? This is the best option -
Then you can try to insert that disk in your computer at startup - There are CDs for sale from certain places (you need to find one like EBay) -
This is the best way I can find to bypass or reinstall the file that is causing your problem -
{before it happened , there were suspicious actions} You are not very specific on this particular problem -
Also the hpdskflt item is a known problem with some HP units -

Thank You -
EDIT -
{Windows XP Professional CD **GENUINE** + New Pro Key} - Typical item listed from EBay, cost was about $50

Yes , it seems so !
I have read there are various kinds of issues about hpdskflt , ranging from benign to critical ...

{before it happened , there were suspicious actions} You are not very specific on this particular problem -

I was just browsing Internet , (nothing special) , then suddenly there was something that looked like a malware or a virus :
a fake scan with a lot of error messages .

In cases like that , I try to act as quick as possible ;

I unplugged the Internet cord , I killed the criminal processes (there were 2) ,
and then I tried to locate the criminal files on the Hard Drive , I renamed them , and deleted them .

the criminal item was also on the taskbar , in the quick launch , and there was also an icon on the desktop .

Finally I removed all this , that is to say all that I could see or that I could find ....

All this was done hurriedly , I had no time to write the name of the files in question ....

about the
XP CD

This HP Elite was lent to me by a friend during the period of his Xmas holidays ;

( He knew that I have big problems with the screen of my own laptop ).

He uses his laptop as a professional tool at his work , ( in Paris ) .
He got his laptop with all the necessary programs and Data Bases pre-installed , ( including Windows XP pro ).
The installation was done by a technician of the head office in Bruxelles . All the CD are there .

First , I thought I could fix the problem myself and give back the laptop in good condition .

But he comes back this Sunday .

It seems there is no quick and easy solution .

I will continue and browse the forums to see if I can find another solution or a "cure" to put on a USB key .

Anyway , thank you very much for your help , that was really very kind of you . :)

Cheers ,

fmr

Thanks for the link Louis .
HP Business Support Center was one of the first sites I visited for my problem .

When I searched for documents matching "hpdskflt.sys". (with the option : Search the entire site ) I got :
" No documents were found for your search. "

Funny , because the hpdskflt.sys is a known problem with some HP laptops .....

Thank you Louis .
Cheers ,
fmr
