I just started using the latest version of Thunderbird (in Windows 7) and have some questions.

I like to view messages in an open window (popup style, not in the pane). But when I reply or forward, a new reply window opens without deleting the original open message. Is there any way for this open message to disappear? Also, I can't seem to browse through emails this way. There are no next/previous buttons in the open message. I can't see a way to add the buttons to there.

I played with the options in "reading and display" without any luck. I googled for solutions and a couple of places mentioned the buttons add-ons (for both issues), but they don't seem to be working for me.

Lastly, what is the best way to backup my Thunderbird email?

Thanks for any and all help!
