I hope I'm not in the wrong place with this post but I've come across it after searching a few file directories and it leading here.
Nature of the problem:
Large amounts of music (specifically mp3 files) have disappeared from my hard drive (D:).
The directory folders remain unaffected and where there were jpegs in the folders, these remain unmoved.
15GB of what appears to be the most recent files remains unmoved.
I've used several data recovery programmes and they all find the music but it's much of it is labelled only as file001, file002 etc. About a third of the recovered data is there only in name - that is many files are 0kb or much smaller than their original size. This problem has only affected mp3 music files.
$ signs have begun to appear before some folder names.
Within the program data folder on the (C:) drive there are some new folders with the text coloured blue:
A couple of weeks ago I had an infection called HDD rescue and thought I'd removed it. The music files disappeared about 3 or 4 days before any symptoms of HDD rescue were observed but I guess I can't rule out the two things being connected.
So far I've:
Ran AVG anti virus - Nothing found
Ran Malware Bytes - Nothing found
Any help would be much appreciated.
