============= FINISH: 3:52:35.56 ===============

background:
i think it's been on the computer for a while. a few weeks ago, computer ran slower than it should, so i did system maintenance, and a program to tidy up the links etc. that seemed to fix the problem.

a few days ago, windows explorer would shut down, and I would receive a blue screen, not blank, screen full of info. next time I will try to take a screen shot.
i was thinking that the isp security bundle wasn't working well enough, so I installed latest avg free. there was a conflict, i had to unload the isp security bundle in order to access the internet, even though icon in the task/notification bar would say that computer was connected local and internet.

around this time, I would have trouble getting back onto Google Chrome - went over to Mozilla and tried to reinstall Google Chrome, no go.
that's when i did a google on the trojan, which linked me directly with the thread with fellow with same issue.
i couldn't get on here as 'dcbouchard' so i made another profile dici59 (took two tries, which used up my primary email and secondary email address).

i followed all the instructions between the mod/other profile user but i couldn't be sure if it worked.
the last test the ESETScan took over 10 hours so I had lots of time to read, and that's when i noticed there was a protocol to follow and advice not to run combofix unless advised/supervised by mod etc. sorry!

i wasn't positive that my profile was dcbouchard, but one of the mods looked me up and let me know, yes, it's dcbouchard, and i remembered the password and got back on here.
i was advised to run DDS and post over here, which i did as dici59 on early christmas day (3:43am, i think).
well now i have two profiles (with posts) here, and i like my old one (plain ol' dcbouchard) which is used for serious minded forums (dici is reserved for gameapps (runescape/mafia wars - kill me, lol) - so i copy/pasted dici59 trojan thread and started new thread. i asked mod to deactivate dici59 and we can start fresh (albeit, all this history, in the course of two days), and i really need dici59 deactivated so that i can request another email change as dcbouchard's old email is for a now defunct isp, and my two attempts on christmas eve used up my shaw.ca and gmail.com email addresses.

back to trojan issue.. it's not gone. i am sure of it. it doesn't show up in virus scans etc, but windows explorer shut down again in the last 24 hours and received another blue screen - i have completed a full back up.

by the way, prior to me doing all the tasks associated with that other thread for the trojan, i could not complete a backup, it would "fail" but was able to run the back up afterward. in addition, the thread would always say "save to desktop" and while it looked like my desktoop it was actually linked to c:\dcb\home\... down like four levels. i had to figure out how to fix that so, desktop is really the desktop now.
the DDS is above this.. i didn't have any cd emulators but ran defogger anyway..

where i left off, i had run esetscan resulting in various instances of worms. i uninstalled combofix.
before running esetscan again,
i also downloaded/installed secunia psi program which let me know which apps had issues - where i could decide to update or uninstall and advanced system care free up space and tidy up the registry.
i ran a full backup of computer, deleted old backups.
ready to run esetscan again, which brought it down to two instances of 'Win32/HackTool.SuperSimpleWall application" (located in older apps - not from anything done in the few months). let esetscan clean that up, did another full backup, deleted old backup, ran advanced system care one more time, then, ran esetscan again. all clear!!!
only thing left to do is a restore point.
the only reason i felt comfortable plugging ahead, i have been a computer user since 1993, i know my limitations, i am not a programmer, but i have worked with dos, and the various versions of windows and i am not afraid to take my computer apart and put it back together again. (the only thing i have a habit of burning is keyboards because i am a clean freak and water is not a good thing between those plastic sheets!) i trust this site for sound information - don't just follow any advice from googling - as some sites provide disastrous advice that result in a complete reinstall of your OS etc ( that's on a good day!)

right now running pctools, spyware doctor (part of google chrome), superantispyware, and advanced system care.

bottom line: couldn't have done this without BC... thanks for leading me in the right direction.

really hope one of the mods will deactivate dici59 as my email address for dbouchard is linked to my work email and i would rather use either shaw.ca or better yet, gmail.com (both are in use) according to BC.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log
