I have a toshiba satillite a135, the hard drive has failed and there is no restore dvd. when the computer is turned on i can hear the hard drive spinning but i get nothing on the screen and the hard drive LED does not light up. I have removed it and hooked it up to my desk top and pulled all the pictures off of it but is there any way to pull the correct info and put it on a new hard drive? and then have it to boot as it normally should?

First of all, make sure, that drive is really bad....

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnostic

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

Did you read my post?

I have removed it and hooked it up to my desk top

...and THERE, you run hard drive diagnostic.

Just wanted to make sure, your drive is really at fault.

In that case, you have three options:
1. Call Toshiba, requesting recovery DVD
2. Borrow Vista DVD and use your product key
3. Buy Vista DVD

..or even motherboard.
I don't think, you can diagnose this issue without traveling to a computer shop (if it's worth it).
