Laptop, 1G memory, Win/XP Pro SP3. Put MS Essentials on, scanned, no hits. Downloaded DDS to generate logs for forums, and it opens, and starts the ":" process, gets 51 of them written to window and no more. Mouse then becomes useless. The pointer moves on the screen, but clicks (rt or left) have no effect. Keys have no effect either. After 30 minutes, the only thing that will have an effect is the power button.

I'm trying to get the logs here for your review, but it hangs up after a while.

I also tried running ComboFix. It checked for updates, began the running, after the message saying it might take longer than 10 minutes, I would expect to see Stages go by. Alas, no stages, just the same result as above. Mouse that moves, but doesn't click and no keys working.

Diagnostics found no hardware errors. CD Boot into Linux, will run just great. Temptation to "nuke & pave" is growing fast.
