My computer runs extremely slow (from start up, to opening and closing programs, and running internet). As of recent, my computer will not allow me of install any new programs, update Java and now get on Facebook. Everytime I try to download a program (most recently anti-spyware or malware) my computer tells me during installing a dll file or exe file is missing. This holds true with every program I have tried. When I try to open currently installed anti-virus program; the program will either not open or I will receive an error "The program failed to initialize, error (0xc000012d)." When I attempt to login to Facebook my IE broswer says that the certificate is bad and if I reload the page the browers tells me "To enable cookies" to view the page. I am unable to run AVG, Malwarebytes, or an other program.

I ran the scandisk and defragmented the drive with no issues. I am unable to run a DDS report (download will not begin or install). I was able to get a hijackthis log, GMER log and run MBRcheck. All of the logs are attached. I appreciate any advice you can give me to resolve this issue.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    Posted Image

    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs

Gringo,

Thanks for signing on to help me resolve these issues. I attempted to complete all of your requests and here were the results.

As I mentioned I am unable to save or install any software or programs to the desktop (or anywhere else for that matter) however I did run the defogger and it was completed.

Based on the fact that I cannot install DDS I was unable to run the program either – the ms black window would pop up and then minimize with no further results.

(If I try to save or download programs I get an error message which says "Cannot copy file: The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different name." It doesn't matter what you put in, you cannot save a program.

I was able to run the Rootkit Unhooker and below is the report:

Hello

to run our tools you are going to have to download other tools.

so here is what I want you to try

download DDS from another computer and save it to a jump drive (usb or flash drive) and first see if you can move to the infected computer or run it from the jump drive

I am unable to run the program even after tranfer from a thumb drive... I open the DDS program and it immediately opens a black (ms type) window and minimizes. Nothing happens after the window minimizes. I have tried waiting for several minutes and running the program again with no avail. (I did try this with all three links)

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click on Minimal Output at the top
  • Download the following file scan.txt to your Desktop. Click here to download it. You may need to right click on it and select "Save"
  • Double click inside the Custom Scan box at the bottom
  • A window will appear saying "Click Ok to load a custom scan from a file or Cancel to cancel"
  • Click the Ok button and navigate to the file scan.txt which we just saved to your desktop
  • Select scan.txt and click Open. Writing will now appear under the Custom Scan box
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the OTL.Txt into this topic and please attach the Extras.Txt.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

I tried running the Combofix which completed up to Stage 5 and then I received several messages:
"The system cannot execute the specified program."
"Insufficient system resources exist to complete requested service."
"10 was unexpected at this time"

Then my computer froze - I tried opening the task manager and I received an error "The application failed to initalize properly (0x000012d)." I could not shutdown the computer and had to do a hard shutdown. I am trying to run the program again as we speak...

Hello

the attached report is very old - march of 2010

Ok lets try this, I want you to run combofix in safe mode but it is very important that when combofix reboots the computer for you to direct it back into safe mode so it can finish the scan.

Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

after combofix has finished its scan please post the report back here.
