I got a new camera and paired it with 16GB Transcend SDHC memory card. I'm using XP home and when I plug in the memory card, I get the icon for it, but when I try to double-click and open it, I get a message "Please insert disk in drive E" and that's all that happens. In the format menu I get these options: for Capacity I can only choose 512 bytes and for File System I can choose between FAT and exFAT. However, as far as I know both are no good with XP, so in the end I did not format it through the computer.

Formatted the card through the camera itself, but it didn't make any difference, just deleted all I shot so far.

I can connect the camera with the usb cable and that way I can access the pictures, but then the videos that I have taken do not appear, so I still cannot access all the data.

Any suggestions?

Are using a adapter to plug it in or the one integrated to your computer?

I'm using the slot of the lap top, no adapters.

To use HC, both the hardware (card reader/slot) and OS must be HC compatible. For XP that means it needs to be at SP3 or otherwise have the HC patch installed. If the laptop's card reader is not HC aware, and the camera does not install as a USB mass storage device (ie only accesses pictures thru its own software package), it might be simplest to get a HC compatible USB card reader, which should not be expensive.
