I'm posting here because I was directed (from TechSpot) to download Roguescanfix_setup.exe.
The highlighted link on Bleeping Computer will not bring up this program to download to desktop. The other 2 are waiting on my desktop. So I then decided to use the manual process, but my printer is malfunctioning and I believe it's due to whatever is messing up my computer. It worked before I did the start up clean up I mention below.

PC is a Sony Vaio with XP Pro SP3

brief history:
Just before Thanksgiving when I was out of town my teenage son and his buddies were browsing the smut pages. When Avira, MalwareBytes and SAS did nothing I then went to TS for help. I had the Think Point Banner that TS helped me fix immediately and the redirects to the $1000 Walmart Winner" SEEMED to be taken care of as well. They said I had Malware.
Actins so far were: GMER, dds, OTM, Hijack, TDSSKiller, ESET Scanner, Startup Cleanup and maybe something else. ESET found infections and TDSS found a bunch of RootKit infections. All seemed to be taken care of for about 4 days. PC was working like greased lightening.
I was then coached on tidying up start up after we thought the PC was cleaned of infections. All seemed to go well, but since then my computer started with the current headache. I was hammered again with redirects and that same Walmart $1000 Winner just like before. And then my PC would not bring up desktop unless I waited about 15 minutes. Internet-- Sometimes I could connect in a jiffy many times over and sometimes it wouldn't connect at all.

Then I was directed to run Combofix. I tried, but it would not run because it said Virus Ranger 3.6 is installed.
I ran ESET again and it found JS/Trojandownloader.Agent.NWGtrojan.
Rootkit scan--- rootkit.win32.backboot.gen/HardDiskO
Thursday's Avira Scan got the following warning and I'm not sure if it means anything or not, so here it is.
Starting the file scan:

Begin scan in 'C:\'
C:\pagefile.sys
[WARNING] The file could not be opened!
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService.NT AUTHORITY\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GRHKCV88\swflash[1].cab
[0] Archive type: CAB (Microsoft)
--> FP_AX_CAB_INSTALLER.exe
[WARNING] No further files can be extracted from this archive. The archive will be closed

Without the Roguescanfix download I'm at a loss what to do and it appears my PC helper is just as frustrated as I am.

Sincerely,
Blood Pressure Arisin'

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer :welcome:

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review your topic an do their best to resolve your issues.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log
