When attempting to update java 6 release 22 to release 23 I get the following error on a fully patched Windows XP system (SP3).

"\lib\deploy\ffjcext.zip Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

Is this an installer issue or something else?

Are you using on-, or offline Java file?

Try to remove old Java version and its remnants first.

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.

Using the online updater came up on it's own in systoolbar in accordance with control panel settings. Also attempted update from control panel button.

JavaA removed two versions from it's message box. Re-attempted update using jucheck from javaRA and it failed with the same message. Should I tru the sun website option from JavaRA?

Did you run JavaRa?

If so....

Go here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Download Windows 7/XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 Offline file and try to install it again.

attempted jucheck install from JavaRA

This is NOT what I asked you to try....

Go here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Download Windows 7/XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 Offline file and try to install it again.

After the first JavaRA cleaning I trued jucheck update prior to your last message. I was actively attempting the offline update as you typed your response (the future part of my message.

Thanks so much the offline update worked. I believe this issue can be closed.
