Been watching this site for some time, and have learned a bunch. Rarely have a problem but I thought I'd throw this out.
My desktop is shut down nightly. When I power it up in the morning it lights up like normal. But rather than loading I get a flash to the windows starting screen, a flash of my desktop.........then the screen goes to black.
When I do a hard shutdown, and power up It goes to the error page. I get a choice of normal or safe mode windows start up. Choosing normal, everything is fine. During the day I can shutdown, reboot etc. w/o issues. The only time I have an issue is after overnight shutdown.

I bought this knowing the power supply was weak, and the graphics card was lacking.

In this black screen is the a cursor in the upper left corner?

What error is showing up in the Event Viewer when this occurs?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

I don't recall a cursor visible. Event log shows this at startup:

Do you have any Microsoft Office applications?

If so, are they included in the start up? You can check this by using msconfig. Go to Start> Run and type in msconfig and click OK.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

During the day I can shutdown, reboot etc. w/o issues.

When you do this shutdown without issues during the day, are you going to full shutdown, or selecting restart?

A side note unrelated to this issue, if you update to the latest version of Adobe Air you will stop getting the SideBySide errors

Nothing in start up. I have Office 2003 loaded, and had a trial version of 10 that I deleted.

Selecting restart causes no problems. I'll check on Air and see if theres a newer version.

Ok......downloaded the latest of Adobe Air. Also removed the Brother printer and it's drivers. Ran across driver updates for it and loaded them. I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow at start up.

Just want to thank you guys for all the help so far...........

This could be a chipset driver or other hardware issue. Check the hp site and see if they have an updated chipset driver for your machine.

Also check that your memory is seated well and check all hard drive connections. I would also run memory diagnostics.

Checked for latest drivers, and ran diognostics. Did find new drivers for the printer and loaded those after deleting the old. Will see what happens.......
