Microsoft plans to release 17 security updates tomorrow for the last patch Tuesday of the year. This breaks the previous record of 16 set back in October which broke the previous record set in August. To updates are rated "Critical," 14 as "Important" and one as "Moderate." Happy belated Patch Tuesday, Andrew! :)

Unfortunately, the updates are not so pleasant for me as I am on dial-up during Christmas break. But I managed to get them all downloaded and installed without too much hair-pulling.

I went through the updates Tuesday, but did not find this thread until today. My updating process included two third party programs found by Secunia PSI. The MS critical updates for this machine included twelve patches, followed by two more after rebooting. In all there were three reboots. the entire process took almost two hours. I'm happy that we had time to spare!!

Except for the occasional emergency update, you can set your watch by Microsoft's update schedule: the second Tuesday of each month. Next patch Tuesday: January 11, 2011.
