Firefox 3.6.13 also has a habit of minimizing itself frequently. I don't know if its related to the urlseek infection. After running the gmer scan I encountered some errors - Microsoft C++ Runtime Library - Runtime error application requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Also PSANToManager.exe encountered a problem and needs to close. Also, Zone Alarm - True Vector Internet Monitor has shut down, restart it? Y \ N. I was able to save the log.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

I'm judicandus and I'll be helping you out.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. Please also continue to work with me until I give you the all clear. Even if your computer appears to act better, you may still be infected.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.

Once we start working together, please reply back within 3 days or this thread may be closed so we can help others who are waiting.

Please post a DDS log and Gmer log. For instructions please read this post:

Thank you Judicandus,

My first GMER scan attempt failed. After leaving the computer to scan during the night I returned in the morning to a computer in the process of rebooting - Stop (blue screen) error caused by a device or driver

You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a stop error, also called a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.

Restarted the scan, the scan finished with: Window - Delayed Write Failed \device\harddiskvolume1\programfiles\hp\digitalimaging The data has been lost... Failure of computer hardware or network connection.

Also, the second GMER log was two big to upload so I zipped it.

Hi Chris,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (v1.50) and save it to your desktop.
Download Link 1
Download Link 2Malwarebytes' may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet and double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to this Guide.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • Malwarebytes will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • Under the Scanner tab, make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box, then click the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked and then click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.
  • Exit Malwarebytes' when done.
Note: If Malwarebytes' encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes' from removing all the malware.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

Hi ChrisGCDS,

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Hi Judicandus,

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Holiday.

I downloaded and ran the German language version of ComboFix, I likely clicked through the "English" option without noticing. By the time I tried stopping and re downloading my internet connection had already been disabled so I went ahead with the scan. I suspect that you've seen enough of these logs that the few words in German won't bother you. If you'd like me to rescan I will. In the meantime I'll re download ComboFix in the event I'll need to use it again.

Hi Chris,

Please disable your panda antivirus.

Please run a BitDefender Online Scan
  • Click I Agree to agree to the EULA.
  • Allow the ActiveX control to install when prompted.
  • Click Click here to scan to begin the scan.
  • Please refrain from using the computer until the scan is finished. This might take a while to run, but it is important that nothing else is running while you scan.
  • When the scan is finished, click on Click here to export the scan results.
  • Save the report to your desktop so you can post it in your next reply.

Hi Chris,

Let's take a deeper look for rootkits:

Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your Desktop
  • Double-click on RKUnhookerLE to run it
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan
  • Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest
  • Click OK
  • Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report
  • Save the report to your Desktop
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get this warning it is ok, just ignore

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

The scan found nothing, report below. My computer appears to have restarted at a past restore point after the bitdefender scan. I downloaded Rootkit Unhooker from www.antirootkit.com. The development team has joined with Microsoft and the rootkit.com url doesn't appears to be no longer valid.
